Our New Town

Some fun info and comments about where we live:

  • Newtown was founded more than 300 years ago by William Penn after he set up Philadelphia. He traveled North through land he had purchased and settled on a spot to build his "new town." It was originally named New Township but is now known as Newtown.

  • We are only a few miles from where George Washington crossed the Delaware River on Christmas Eve in 1776. The crossing is reenacted every Christmas Eve. We are hoping to go this year.

  • Our new church was founded in 1880 and the original building is still standing (it was restored in the late 90s). Something I think is funny is the address for the Olde Church is 123 Sycamore Street.

  • I can't tell you how many people are shocked we would rather move back to the Midwest, than stay out here permanently. They can't imagine life without the beach so close.

  • It is wild to me, but we actually now people who "summer" in the Hamptons, or Martha's Vineyard and several people we know have beach houses or their families have beach houses. Many of them even spend significant amounts of time each summer there and not here - I seriously thought that was just in the movies. It's crazy to me that you would leave your house for so many months and be somewhere else, although we do enjoy going to the beach.

  • It's all a matter of perspective - since we have traveled around the country and since we grew up in St. Louie, a few hour car ride seems like nothing, but many people we have talked with never go much outside their neighborhoods and explore all the fabulous amount of culture and history around here, which blows our minds.

  • A lot of people we meet assume we both grew up on farms because we are from Missouri - seriously?!?!? There is so much more than farms and they are shocked when they realize how we didn't even really know farmers.

Random, fun info. We can't wait to hit Washington. You better believe I will be there on inauguration day taking photos because one way or another, it will be historic!
